Silver jewel box with repousse design by Spencer Pumphrey. Design includes four repousse roses and the Shakespearian quotation "GATHER YE ROSES WHILE YE MAY OLD TIME IS STILL A-FLYING". The box has hallmarks for A. E. Jones, Birmingham, 1919.

Spencer Pumphrey was well respected for his repousse work. He did freelance work for both Jesson, Birkett & Co and A.E. Jones Ltd. Pumphrey worked for Jones during the Holloway Head days (1902-1905).

This particular box is described on page 21 of the book "A. Edward Jones - Metalcraftsman", Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, 1980. The box was exhibited in Liverpool in 1910.
